On August 15, 2017, Susan Hartmus Hiser and Gail Cober of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission -- Detroit Office made a half day presentation entitled "Understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)." The event was sponsored by the United Cerebral Palsy of Metropolitan Detroit with funding from ADA Michigan. The workshop covered: The interactive process generally and what is required/expected of both the employee and the employer, along with some scenarios of what the parties could do in difficult situations to work more collaboratively together. Points of discussion included: Interviewing and hiring; Hiring a person with a disability; Providing reasonable accommodations; and Title I of the ADA.
The Murray Law Group's Immigration Practice has recently completed its inaugural Immigration Seminar. It has held on May 5, 2017, at the Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac. Presentations were made by our attorneys and Guest Speaker, Brian Dingle, M.I.R., L.L.B., Partner and Toronto Regional Business Immigration Leader, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Participants were eligible for up to 5 SHRM credits.
On Friday, January 20, 2017, David Calzone, one of the founding members the The Murray Law Group, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan at its annual Mid-Winter meeting. Dave founded the predecessor firm to The Murray Law Group, along with Greg Murray and others, in 1996. Dave was introduced by Greg Murray, who presented him with the award. Susan Hiser hosted the evening as the Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section Council. Several MLG attorneys, both in the labor/employment and immigration areas, came out to honor Dave.
William E. Altman was inducted as a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers on November 12, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by one’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence. Mr. Altman joins Gregory V. Murray and Susan Hartmus Hiser as Fellows of this elite group.
